To become a certified SCUBA diver, the successful completion of two
phases of training and testing is required. As a certified diver, you
will receive a certification card from PADI- the worlds largest dive
training organization; entitling you to rent scuba equipment and purchase
air for SCUBA tanks.
Students enrolled in SCUBA, through LAKE SUPERIOR DIVERS, benefit from our
over 50 years of dive training education in the Duluth-Superior area. We have
the largest number of certified instructors on staff and the largest quantity of
equipment of any training facility in the region. Classes have
student/instructor ratios. each student is individually outfitted with SCUBA
equipment during all phases of training.
All students must be at least 12 years old. Only average swimming skills are
required for SCUBA diving.
All of our instructors and divemasters are certified.

Phase I: Classroom and Pool Training
Learn the basic skills and knowledge necessary to go out into open water.
Satisfactory completion of this phase requires passing a written examination and
successfully demonstrating basic SCUBA skills in a pool.

Phase II: Open Water Dives
Open water dives are a demonstration of Phase I pool skills in an open water
environment, usually Lake Superior. It consists of four 20 minute (or 1/2 tank)
dives and one snorkel dive on two separate days.

Some students may wish to complete only Phase I with us and obtain a referral

Personal equipment required for both Phase I & II!
| Students must own their own swim suit, mask, fins, scuba
boots, and snorkel. All other equipment will be provided by us for both
phases of training. |
